I heard my own voice a few minutes ago, my real voice. I was singing along with the newest Counting Crows CD and leaned all the way back in my chair and bent my neck backwards. A bass resonance from below my Adam’s Apple flowed out, powered by my diaphram, and felt so right.

Jesus returned from the Jordan full of the Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit into the desert, where he was tempted by the Devil for forty days. In all that time he did not gamble, watch professional wrestling, or lust after go-go dancers.

The Devil said to him, “If you are God’s Son, order this stone to turn into a craps table.”

But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Man cannot live on craps alone.'”

Then the Devil took him up and showed him in a second all the kingdoms of the world. “I will give you all this power and all this wealth, ” the Devil told him. “All you have to do is wrestle me for it.”

Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and wrestle only Him!'”

Then the Devil took him to Jerusalem and set him on the highest point of Flash Dancers and said to him, “If you are God’s Son, take these dancers for an endless, wild orgy. For the scripture says, ‘God will order his angels to take good care of you.'”

But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'”

When the Devil finished tempting Jesus in every way, he left him for a while.

A beautiful part of The Sleepers from Leaves of Grass.

I too pass from the night,

I stay a while away, O night, but I return to you again, and love you.

Why should I be afraid to trust myself to you?

I am not afraid—I have been well brought forward by you;

I love the rich running day, but I do not desert her in whom I lay so long,

I know not how I came of you, and I know not where I go with you—but I know I came well, and shall go well.

I will stop only a time with the night, and rise betimes;

I will duly pass the day, O my mother, and duly return to you.

Funny how so many Flash and Shockwave animations rehash the same moving-cutout techniques used by Monty Python way back when, it’s just done digitally now.

Someone else differentiating between intuitable and intuitive. I was pandering to the common usage before so as to be understood, but I think I’ll start using it properly – the rich meaning is worth the raised eyebrows it’ll generate.

Don’t put important information at the top of the screen if there’s header junk up there. I call this “the SMTP effect” since I think we’re trained to skip over the SMTP header garbage and look for where the real content begins (also relevant to banner ads, but they’re less subtle).

This Email unsubscribe form from HotWired is a good example. The damn text box for filling in your address blends into the ads and nav bar crap at the top. It’s even above the instructions! An otherwise handy form though.
