UX or IR?
When approaching a new design, I could ask whether I'm striving to facilitate The Great User Experience or if I just want to help someone find out what time the movie starts, i.e. information retrieval, or somewhere on the spectrum between the two. This could be done before - and help fuel - decisions around useful, usable, and desirable.
